Mr. Fields

Gary Fields has been the principal here at Bowling Green High School since the 2002-2003 school year. Previously the principal at Potter Gray Elementary School, recognized as one of the top 15 elementary schools in Kentucky according to CATS results, Mr. Fields is familiar with BGHS where once he was a Social Studies teacher and the assistant football coach (1996 to 1999) as well as the Girls Track coach (1998). He was awarded BGHS Teacher of the Month in May 1997 and October 1997. Although he gained experience at our school, his illustrious ride down the education highway included stops at other schools as well. From 1995-1996, he was a teacher of Freshman Geography at Union County High School, where he was also an assistant football coach. After that, he served on the site based decision-making council (SBDMC) from 1997-1999, and during this time, from 1998-1999, he was an intersession remediation coordinator. Mr. Fields also served as co-chair for strategy three in the district-wide strategic plan renewal process.

After graduating from Newport High School, Mr. Fields received a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Economics and Government from Centre College. His Master of Arts in Education with Initial Certification is from the University of Kentucky. He holds a provisional certification for instructional leadership for kindergarten through twelfth grades and a provisional certification in the areas of government, history, geography, and economics.

 


Mr. Livers

Virgil Livers has been an Assistant Principal at Bowling Green High School since the fall of 1998. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelors Degree in Science and went on to achieve a Master's Degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He then returned to WKU where he received his Rank I in Administration.

Mr. Livers began his professional career as a NFL football player for the Chicago Bears and later played in the USFL for the Chicago Blitz. He began his teaching career at Warren Central High School where he taught and coached before moving on to Greenwood High School as the head of the Physical Education Department. He also was Greenwood High School's head football coach as well as the Boy's and Girl's Track Coach. Mr. Livers was inducted into the WKU Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2001, his football jersey was retired.

 


Mrs. Shive

Monyonna Shive joined the staff as Bowling Green High School Assistant Principal in 2001. Mrs. Shive became an educator in 1987 as an Instructional Assistant for Primary Grades. In 1987, Mrs. Shive earned her Associates in Arts at Leeward Community College (University of Hawaii) in 1983. She received her B.A., M.A. in education, Rank 1 in guidance counseling, and Administration Certification (K-12) at Western Kentucky University.

Mrs. Shive worked for ten years in Metcalfe County, her home county. She taught Primary, 7th and 8th grades, and served as middle school Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal, and Interim Principal. Mrs. Shive then transferred to Monroe County to be the district Alternative School Director/ Administrator and Safe School Coordinator for four years.

Mrs. Shive is married to Rickey Shive, the maintenance supervisor for Bowling Green City Schools. They have two children, Jarrod and Jannah.

Mrs. Shive takes the daily challenge of working with students to help them become more successful with academics and behavior that will affect their future. She is so pleased to share in the tradition of excellence in academics and athletics at BGHS.
